The Conservation Group
The Conservation Group, amongst a vast and diverse array of other activities, have restored, repaired, collated, and displayed a collection of tools and equipment accumulated over the years. The tools, which are still “appearing”, were once used by the Estate’s blacksmiths, wheelwrights, plumbers, and woodsmen. This year the Team will be displaying some of their larger recoveries in the cart shed just outside the Walled Garden. (A tour of which will be available via the entrance kiosk of the Walled Garden on Open Wednesdays).
Members of the team have also restored the weathervane, once installed on the highest point of the Mackenzie and Moncur roof, and now temporarily in the stables at the rear of the Walled Garden while we prepare to install it at ground level within the garden walls.
Would you like to work in beautiful surroundings steeped in history? Are you interested in learning a skill or honing your existing ability? Members of this group come from diverse backgrounds, bringing their life experiences and enthusiasm to work within this vibrant team. Email: molly.draper@lutonhooestate.co.uk to arrange to come in to the project on one of our volunteer days (Wednesdays or Fridays) for an informal chat about ways that you could join the Walled Garden Project.
